A VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS AT BROADGREEN HOUSE

This week the Junior Syndicate classes have experienced the magic of Christmas in the last century with visits to Broadgreen House on Monday and Tuesday.
Classes were split into two groups, one having a tour of the gracious old home while the other played old fashioned games like statues and blind man's bluff. We also listened to an old Christmas story book. Then the groups swapped over. Courtenay and Ali were our student teachers, all dressed up in the gowns maids would have worn in the old days.
The trip was very worthwhile and thank you to parent helpers, especially having to ferry children back to school when it began raining heavily!

Making Clay Santas at the Suter Art Gallery

Today we had a treat! After lunch we all went in cars to the Suter Art Gallery and we were met by Esther who showed us some of the paintings on display and we searched for patterns in the artworks. After that we were taken to the back room and everything was set out on tables for our clay adventure to begin. Esther took us through each step showing us how to cut and mould the clay to make our cute Santa figurines. We can't wait for them to be fired and returned to school so we can paint them in time for Christmas. Check out the cool photos.......

CALENDAR ART

This year we have been learning how to draw pukekos in Room 4. We love their bright blue, black, red and white colouring, their big beaks and long gangly legs!
We have used these pukeko pictures in our calendar art, set in a swampy background. Thank you to all the parents who have ordered calendars, cards, diaries and notepads that will feature this art.
Orders are soon to be sent away and they will be back in time for Chrismas!

The Masked Parade

At the end of the first week back this term we all took part in The Masked Parade. It took a long time for everyone in the school to get the masks ready, but it all magically came together on the day. It was awesome to see students, parents and teachers with so much energy to help put together our Birchwood masks and yippee... we won 2nd place out of the school entries!
Check out some of the photos taken on the day.......

Chocolate cake

Last week with the help of two parents Kylie and Rachael, we made a chocolate cake. We all had a turn to mix the cake. Kylie and Rachael took all the Room 4 students over to smell the cake while it was cooking in the oven. It looked good when it came out of the oven.

Next day we iced the cake with chocolate icing and later we all had a piece. Everyone said it tasted yummy!

Mass activities

During week 8 Room 4 students took part in some activities about Mass. For one task they worked together in pairs to weigh some objects with blocks.
