Who is Behind the Mask?

As a lead up to the Masked Parade we have been making different kinds of masks in Room 4 as part of our Art programme. We started with masquerade masks held by a stick which used to be used at balls in the old days. These are on display in our classroom.
Next we made animal masks (cats and dogs) out of paper plates. These are also hanging in our class and some sample photos are here for you to see. Can you guess who is behind the mask?
We are now working on the big masks for the Masked Parade. We have been learning about Peter Jackson as a Famous New Zealander and the Junior Syndicate are making masks that reflect his work. Ours are the 'Ents' which are the tree people. Watch this space!

Length

Last week the children in Room 4 were talking about length and using words associated with how long wide or tall objects are. During the week we practised measuring small objects using non standard measures.

Final Day At The Aquatic Centre

Our two weeks of swimming have come to an end. On the final day the children had their usual swimming lesson then they were all put into relay teams for a race on float boards. You can see from the photos that there was great excitement as the children kicked down the pool (with a bit of help from the instructors!)

When we went to the wave pool we were surprised to see Mr Butterworth in his togs and we had great fun jumping all over him! After that the waves were turned on and it was just like being at the beach. What an awesome end to two fabulous weeks of learning swimming skills and building up confidence in the water.

FLYING FISH AT THE AQUATIC CENTRE

We have already had seven wonderful afternoons of swimming skills and fun at the Aquatic Centre. We leave in the bus every day at 1:10 to arrive at the pool in time for our 1:30 lesson. While we have our lessons, Room 5 have fun in the Wave Pool then we swap over and have half an hour of fun with our Room 4 friends before changing back into uniform and heading back in the bus to school.
Room 4 students really are flying high! Everyone has made amazing progress and they really are 'Flying Fish'! We have three more days to go, come and join us at the pool.
Check out some of the photos..........
